LONDON, Ky. (AP) -- Laurel County authorities say a man who was challenged by a store clerk after shoplifting flashed a badge and said he was a sheriff's deputy.
Tips from posting a surveillance photo from a Dollar General Store on Facebook led authorities to Robert Trabish. As Trabish was led into jail on Thursday, he told a WYMT-TV reporter he didn't do what he's charged with.
A neighbor of Trabish's and Marie Richardson's told the station Trabish has had the badge for months after buying it at a flea market.
Both Trabish and Richardson were booked into jail. Both are charged with evidence tampering and Trabish is additionally charged with impersonating an officer.
Sheriff's spokesman Gilbert Acciardo said Trabish's use of the badge makes the department consider him dangerous.
