PORTLAND, Maine -- A children's hospital in Portland, Maine is getting a healthy donation thanks to a man who decided to turn a lost bet into a way to give back.

Steve Betters, a combat veteran, stands out these days after he dyed his hair and beard, even his eyebrows, bright pink.

Betters was on the losing end of a football bet in the motorcycle group he belongs to and said he wanted to turn the attention of his bold new look into something positive.

He posted a picture of himself on Facebook along with a pledge.

"If I get 500 likes, I will donate $500 to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. If it goes viral, which I had no intention that it was gonna do, for a thousand likes, I would donate $1,000," Betters said.

Well, the "likes" went well beyond 1,000 and many Facebook users posted comments issuing their own challenges to raise money for the hospital.
