(WHAS11) - Louisville's Metro Sewer district says a gate failed a few hours ago dumping raw sewage into the river. As of Wednesday afternoon, more than a million gallons of sewage have been spilled.
MSD says it has brought in a crane to repair the broken gate and stop the overflow.
Until further notice, people and pets should avoid contact with the river water downstream of the locks and dams.
