LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville is leading a national contest to win $250,000 to help veterans in Kentuckiana, but voting hasn't ended yet.

All you have to do is cast your vote, and if Louisville wins, Home Depot will donate money to build a veteran retreat.

Home Depot, along with Active Heroes, has already made a difference in the life of Louisville resident, Michael Hayes, who lost a leg to an IED in Iraq.

Hayes asked for a fence for his dogs, but volunteers did more, he got the fence, a ramp, and basically a new home on the inside.

If you want to give back to the families who sacrificed for our freedom, vote for Active Heroes by clicking here. Memorial Day is the final day to cast a vote.
