LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville man has been formally indicted on some serious charges after police said he raped his 11-year-old neighbor.
Police say 64-year-old William J. Wallis, from Shively, watched the victim on a regular basis.
"She trusted this guy. It's hard to understand the psychology of the victim. What is she thinking? For all I know, she was thinking, this is OK, this is how it goes. But at one point, she realized this was wrong, this has to stop and that's when she brought the information forward," Sgt. Josh Myers, with the Shively Police Department, said.
Police said Wallis admitted to having sex with the girl, not once but on multiple occasions in the last couple of years and paid her for sexual favors.
"It is disturbing. These kind of cases are ones you don't like to hear about at all, but it does exist," Myers said.
It's a confession Wallis' neighbors had a hard time believing, but police say the evidence is in photos and videos taken from Wallis' home. Some photos date back to 2011, when the victim was just 9-years-old.
"We executed the search warrant [Tuesday]. We did discover some of the images, in what was pretty clear what was going on, and pretty true to what the victim reported," Myers said.
In this case, police say Wallis had a system of rewards in place. He admitted to paying the young girl $20 for each time he wanted to capture a sexual act on camera.
"He did make the statement that he has nobody to blame but himself," Myers said.
Police believe the girl was the lone victim.
"That's not to say more victims may come forward after seeing this story," Myers said.
Wallis is charged with three counts of 1st degree rape, two counts of 1st degree sodomy, possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor and use of a minor under 16 in a sex performance.
