LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)—A local poet is helping the city honor one of the city’s most famous journalists.
Poet Ron Whitehead said he has been working on a banner, like those “Hometown Heroes” that are already across the city, to honor his friend, gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson.
The mural will be hung in downtown Louisville, but instead of a photo, the banner will be a portrait drawn by a cartoonist.
Whitehead wouldn’t tell exactly where the location the banner will be displayed, but he said it was a prominent location on Main Street near the KFC Yum! Center.
The mural will be unveiled on Saturday, April 5, 2014 and the celebration will go all day.
Thompson died in 2005 at the age of 67.
