LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A Louisville man was arraigned Tuesday morning on sex abuse charges stemming from an alleged relationship with a student at a local middle school.
Samuel Patten appeared before a judge to answer allegations of an alleged relationship with a student from Western Middle School while he was dating a teacher at the time.
Just as Patten left the courtroom, he told WHAS11 that he didn’t know what was going on and was unsure of the charges he was facing.
The indictment was handed down last week which revealed Patten was charged with three counts of sex abuse and one count of unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor.
Patten was not taken into custody but will return to court in March.
Each of the sex abuse charges carries a one to 5 year sentence if he’s convicted.
The teacher Patten was dating at the time will not face charges but has since resigned from the district.
