BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) – April 25 marked 11 months since the murder of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis and there are still no suspects in his death.
Ellis was ambushed on Memorial Day weekend of last year when he stopped on his way home to clear debris from an off ramp on the Bluegrass Parkway.
Before he was a police officer, Ellis was a baseball player who signed a free agent contract with the Cincinnati Reds in 2002.
His mother and sisters say they were always proud of the ball player but were more impressed with the man.
Glen Este High School in Cincinnati will retire his number 9 jersey in a ceremony held on Saturday.
His coach says the decision to retire Ellis’ jersey is a no-brainer.
