(WHAS11)- A lawsuit has been filed in western Kentucky, to recoup costs of waste removal of the Superfund site.

The group managing that site in Calvert City wants to force 334 companies, cities and universities to help cover the costs of removing oils, liquid waste and other hazardous and non-hazardous pollutants from the site.

The incinerator operated from the 1950s until October 2005.

The 32-acre plant was one of the largest hazardous waste facilities in the country.
