Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The first ever Louisville Metro Police Department event hotline is up and running just in time for the Ironman competition.

The hotline is a new way to get information out to the public for special events and answer any questions about traffic or parking.

The hotline is staffed only the day of the event.

The number is (502) 689-1440.

They are hoping it will help ease problems with big events like the St. James Court Art Show, the mayor’s Hike and Bike or this Sunday's Ironman.

Major Kelly Jones of the LMPD said, “We do everything we can to try and inform folks, but sometimes they forget or didn't read it and find themselves caught up in somem traffic. This hotline will give them a chance to do something if they're in the middle of a traffic jam (due to an event).”

In addition to helping you navigate around, the hotline is designed to help businessses and give you a place to vent any frustrations with officers working the events.
