LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- An officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department was arrested in early January, accused of drunk driving.

The police department said Thursday that Casey Skeens resigned from the LMPD following his arrest in the early morning hours of January 4, 2014.

Police said Skeens ran several red lights at a high rate of speed in Old Louisville and was able to flee from police for a short period of time.

Police said they lost sight of Skeens' car after he made an illegal left turn onto S. 4th Street from W. Oak St.

Officers found Skeens' car 30 minutes later in an apartment complex's parking lot and determined it belonged to him.

Police said Skeens' was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of his arrest.

Skeens is charged with fleeing and evading police, DUI and reckless driving.  Police said he was on probation with the police department because he was a new hire. He resigned after the incident.
