LMPD, local law enforcement stepping up patrols during NCAA games

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – In wake of the recent violence experienced in downtown Louisville along with Louisville and Kentucky participating in NCAA events, Louisville Metro Police is stepping up patrols to ensure safety throughout the weekend.

Louisville Metro Police has created a plan with other local law enforcement to make sure celebrations are safe and secure.

According to a memo written by Louisville Metro Police, they say four branches of uniformed police officers will specialize in Crime and prevention as well as traffic control.

The branches include:

Branch 1:  Broadway from First Street to 28th Street

Branch 2:  Broadway from 28th Street to Southwestern Parkway

Branch 3:  Waterfront/Downtown Business District/ Fourth Street Live Area /Bardstown Road – Baxter Avenue Corridor

Branch 4:  UofL Campus area
