FULTON, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff's Office have arrested an armed man who held off officers twice in Fulton.

The KSP said the incident began late Monday morning when a state trooper stopped 22-year-old Joshua White of Fulton for a traffic violation and discovered he was wanted for failure to appear in court. As the trooper again approached White's car, White drove away.

After a short chase, White abandoned his car at a public housing complex and ran into a duplex, firing a handgun at the trooper.

White, a 19-year-old woman and the woman's two young children came out after more than two hours, but White ran back inside and it took nearly an hour to talk him out.

Charges were filed against White and others are pending.
