LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)—After the Kentucky General Assembly eliminated funding for the Waterfront Park in the annual budget, forcing cuts and cancellations of some events.

The legislature cut $420,800 from the park’s budget, having been a major funder of the park since its inception in 1986.

Two events were immediately affected, including the Waterfront Independence Festival, which is canceled and the Centennial Festival of Riverboats, a six day event to celebrate the Belle of Louisville’s 100th birthday, will be scaled back, but will still be celebrated.

Other changes and cancellations will be announced as they are made.
