LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The newly established Farm Bill in Kentucky is set to pave the way for hemp production across the state.
According to Kentucky Ag commissioner, James Comer, hemp producers will be licensed in Kentucky in pilot programs. Both Comer and Sen. McConnell said hemp could be a boost for Kentucky’s economy.
KSP officials said they do not support hemp production because of the close relation to marijuana plants.
“Those two can’t be distinguished,” said KSP commissioner Rodney Brewer.
The Indiana Senate passed a similar bill to legalize hemp production. The Indiana bill is now set to move to the House for consideration.
