LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – High honors were awarded Sunday for 8 members of the Kentucky Air National Guard.
The airmen and airwomen received 9 medals between them to honor their heroic actions from recent deployments in Afghanistan.
One man was presented with two Bronze Star Medals for his heroism but says the real honor was hearing about what the other recipients went through.
“Understanding what they were going through at the same time when I was somewhere else, doing great things. So it was cool to hear about what they did,” Staff Sgt. Robert Bonello said.
“I’ve been doing this a long time and it chokes me up and gives me goose bumps. These are special people and it makes me honored to be their commander and be associated with them,” Major General Edward Tonini said.
Other recipients include:
The Distinguished Flying Cross went to Capt. Nathan Tingle, a combat rescue officer for extraordinary achievement
The Bronze Star Medal with Valor was awarded to Tech. Sgt. Jeff Kinlaw for heroism
The Bronze Star Medal was also awarded to Lt. Col. Dallas Krazer II, Master Sgt. James Oliver, Master Sgt. Zakiyah Taylor, Tech Sgt. Robert Bonello and Tech Sgt. Nathan Steel for their meritorious achievements.
Tech Sgt. Christopher Terrell was awarded the Air Force Combat Action Medal for his support in Operation Enduring Freedom.
