LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Thousands show up to celebrate the Kentuckiana Pride Parade Friday evening.

“I love who I am. We’re proud we’re gay. We’re here to stay, “ Nicole Anderson said.

Those who marched in the parade said they wanted to send a message to the community that they are pushing for equal rights and equal opportunities.

Many parents brought their children to the parade to teach them a lesson in tolerance. Keith Sims said he brought his niece and nephew because he wanted the next generation to understand diversity.

Many different religious organizations and Kentuckiana businesses marched in the parade to show their support for the LGBTQ community.

This is the 13th year of the event.  Several protestors were along the parade route.

The Kentuckiana Pride Festival continues on Saturday. There will be several acts and vendors from noon-11pm at the Belvedere.
