Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Keeneland's race track will revert to dirt.
Polytrack, a synthetic racing surface was installed in 2006 with the promise that it was safer for horses and jockeys. Keeneland officials say that while polytrack has been successful, most race tracks stayed with the traditional dirt surface.
That meant some owners and trainers were avoiding Keeneland on the road to the Kentucky Derby and Breeder's Cup. In fact, Keeneland hopes to be a Breeder's Cup site in the future.
The polytrack will be replaced after the spring meet and dirt will be in place for October.
