LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- In a Jefferson County district court room on Tuesday, jockey Robby Albarado was sentenced to pay $500 for assaulting a woman in May.
Albarado did not have to show up in court today.
“On a misdemeanor case, it’s allowed,” said a spokesperson for the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, Bill Patteson. “It doesn't happen often. But it does happen.”
Albarado’s attorneys filed an appeal on the decision and the famed jockey won't have to pay the fine while the appeal is pending.
The judge also decided to postpone a revocation hearing that was scheduled Tuesday until November.
Albarado could face up to a year in jail for violating his probation for assaulting his wife one year ago.
