LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Board of Directors for Jewish Hospital and Saint Mary’s Healthcare announced $18 million in grants to help improve Louisville area facilities.
Jewish Hospital and Saint Mary’s Healthcare merged with Kentucky One Health last year.
The merger freed up millions of dollars that will be awarded as grants.
$1.5 million will be used to continue the hand transplant program.
The largest grant will be used to upgrade an operating room at Jewish Hospital downtown.
“The largest single gift will be $5 million dollars for a hybrid O.R.,” Tom Hirsch, Chairman of the Foundation Board said. “What it really enables [is] a surgeon to do is to have one operating room to have invasive and non-invasive surgery in the same suite.
The hybrid operating room will be the first of its kind in Kentucky.
