COLUMBUS, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A two month undercover investigation has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old Jennings County resident on a preliminary charge of dealing heroin, a class B felony.

Erika J. Swindell of North Totten Circle in North Vernon, was arrested early Saturday afternoon by officers from the Columbus Police Department and Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.  Swindell is suspected of bringing heroin into the Bartholomew and Jennings County areas from Indianapolis and Cincinnati.

Columbus Police Chief Jason Maddix stated, “Our undercover narcotics team works tirelessly to investigate these cases.  I am very proud of their efforts.  Heroin is such a potent and dangerous drug.  There is no doubt in my mind that this arrest will help save lives.”

Columbus Mayor Kristen Brown stated, “Cutting off the supply of drugs into our community is job one for our police department.  Chief Maddix and his team are aggressively pursuing drug dealers with any available legal means.  We cannot have this activity in our community.”

Swindell was lodged in the Jennings County Jail.
