JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) – City officials are planning to commission a large scale sculpture as part of a public art initiative called Canvas.

The sculpture will be placed on land located at the northeast corner of 10th and Mechanic Streets.

Mayor Mike Moore says the project is another step in improving the area.

“This obviously was an eye-sore in the city of Jeff ten years ago. Thanks to Nathan's help now we have something that we are proud to show off.  We are growing as a city and we hope people see the positive side of what we have to offer," he said.

City officials say roughly 30,000 cars pass by the area daily.

An estimated completion of the project has not been released.
