JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Saturday night at Red Carpet Liquors in Jeffersonville turned into anything but business as usual. Police say a man walked into the store on the corner of 8th and Crestview Ct. and demanded money and then shot the clerk before taking off.
Barbara Dunn was a manager at the store. Her sister was working inside at the time when a clerk name Pitel was shot. She said her sister heard the commotion and dropped to the floor.
“I guess because he was getting agitated or irritated that he didn't get any money when he asked for it. So, he shot and left,” said Dunn.
Dunn said she didn’t think the man got away with anything. She checked the security cameras, but couldn’t give a description because the man was masked and wearing all black.
Pitel was rushed to University Hospital. Dunn said he’s in critical, but stable condition. Her sister walked away unhurt.
“It got really emotional because I didn't want to go down there and find my sister shot or hurt because I got her a job there,” said Dunn.
Dunn said she has worked at the store on and off for seven years and nothing like this has happened, but after the shooting she called the owner and quit.
“I can’t do it. My safety means the world,” said Dunn.
Police are looking for one suspect, but don’t have a description. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
