JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore publicly apologized about a domestic dispute at his office involving his estranged wife.  But Moore ended by answering questions about rumors of infidelity.

“It's sickening. It’s a sad day in Jeffersonville to think I have to address gossip and rumors,” Moore said. “I will answer your questions if you give me respect that I give others.”

Mike Moore is angry about rumors of infidelity and he denies having an affair.

“I have not and I will not dignify any more rumors if someone has facts and they want to come to a public meeting, bring it on," Moore said.

He called the media to a briefing Wednesday to talk about a domestic dispute with his wife Tuesday afternoon in his office at city hall.

She came to the office to talk about their pending divorce when things reportedly got heated. Moore says she broke a picture frame and cut her hand. She says things got physical, Moore says she was the only one who became violent.

“She threw a few punches and a few kicks," Moore said.

Jeffersonville Police were called to the scene and a police report was taken but no charges have been filed.

“My wife and I have differences,” Moore said.  “But they have nothing to do with relationships with anyone else.”

He apologized to the community and said rumors of anything else going on with a third person are just political enemies spreading lies.

“There has been a lot of nonsense,” Moore said. “People don't like my situation as mayor.”

One woman we spoke with said, “I haven't heard much about exactly what's going on. If this is an isolated incident then maybe it wouldn't be such a big problem, but if there's more than that then yeah."

Others felt his privacy should be respected. One man said, "People's personal life, they ought to have some kind of personal life, you know what I mean?"
