LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The finalists in Jefferson County Public Schools’ “Schools of Innovation” competition has been announced.
JCPS received 48 submissions in the School of Innovation competition for ideas for a new school intended to open in the 2015-2016 academic year.
12 semi-finalists were named in February and they presented their ideas on March 7 to a panel.
The finalists include the Catalpa School, Louisville Reach Academy, Metro Museum Magnet School and the Next Generation Community School.
Seven school districts have won the district of innovation designation which frees those districts of some state rules and regulations in an effort to promote new ideas.
The semi-finalists were compiled of teams of JCPS educators, directors of several Louisville museums, a former school-based therapist and others.
