LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Big changes announced for the JCPS calendar.
The last day of school has been moved, and two upcoming teacher work days will now be used as make up snow days for students.
June 9th is now the last day of school, after Monday’s snow day.
Though moving instruction into the second week of June is unpopular with some families who have already made summer plans, that week has always been reserved on the JCPS calendar for potential makeup snow days.
Monday night’s scheduling decision however relates to the February 24 and 25. Those days were previously marked as non instructional teacher work days but the school board voted 5-1 to make those school days.
Adding make up snow days at the end of that week as opposed to the end of the second week of June would give the student a week of uninterrupted instruction.
With eight school days plus the holidays, full weeks of consecutive instruction have been in short supply since the end of November,
The there are still four reserved makeup snow days, June 10th-14th, that have not yet been assigned.
