Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Frustrated, disappointed and looking for answers; an Iraq war veteran wants people to remember his story as his search for justice continues.
Authorities are still searching for the person who attacked him and caused severe brain damage.
On Wednesday he'll have another risky brain surgery.
The last few months have been anything but a walk in the park for him and his mother.
“They expected me to die within the first two weeks of being in the hospital and luckily I didn't,” says Andrew Howell, an Iraq war veteran.
Andrew and his mother are sharing a journey they never thought they'd be on.
It all started when Andrew was punched in the head at the Granville Inn in Old Louisville in November.
It was a punch so intense it left Howell brain damaged and doctors had to remove a portion of his skull, forcing him to wear a helmet.
“That’s why I really want someone to come forward, I would really appreciate it if they did,” he says.
Howell and police don't know who attacked him.
Tomorrow he'll have a risky surgery to repair the area where doctors removed his skull.
And before he goes in for the procedure he is making another plea to the community because he says this could be someone else's story too.
“I want to continue with this because they're still out there. If they hit me they will hit someone from the University of Louisville or some other kid and he's gonna mess up their life,” says Andrew.
His mother shares in his frustration.
“He's a coward a coward for hitting him from behind and a coward for not turning himself in and that’s the main thing I want to say, I think he's a coward,” says Andrew’s mother Kelly Sharp.
Howell served a tour of duty in Iraq before the attack after he helped this country his mother is asking the public to help him by solving the mystery.
“They are going to be out there at bars with this person and it could happen to them because the cowardess in him is liable to come out on someone else,” says Kelly.
Howell even has a Facebook page set up asking people to post anything they may know about the night he was punched.
If you know anything about the attack you are urged to call Louisville Metro Police at 574-LMPD.
