LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11) -- A woman and her 12-year-old son were injured overnight after a fire broke out in a home on the 14000 block of S. 32nd Street.

Firefighters were called to the home around midnight after the mother woke up to the sound of fire alarms.

The woman, her husband and her son were able to get out of the house but not without injury. The boy suffered severe burns to his arms and his mother suffered minor burns.

Firefighters say the flames heavily damaged the back of the house and melted the siding of a home next door.

The boy was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital where he is being treated, he is expected to be OK.

No word yet on a cause of the fire.
