ZIIONSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A Central Indiana mom is jumping to the forefront in the gun control movement.

Shannon Watts is from Zionsville and is a mother of five. She's said she is rallying moms across the country to help ban assault weapons by creating a Facebook page called "One Million Moms 4 Gun Control."

More than 3,000 people signed up and formed 20 chapters throughout the United States.

Watts said she isn't against all guns, just semi-automatic weapons and large ammo clips designed for more rapid, mass shooting.
"We need to use some common sense and realize that the second amendment created in 1791 does not cover the type of weapons that we have availability to in the country now," Watts said. "These are warfare-grade weapons that average citizens don't need and shouldn't have."

For now it's just a cyber campaign, but Watts said eventually she hopes to take it to the streets.
