Washington County, Ind. (WHAS) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an accident after a man fell down a ladder-style tree stand.

51-year-old Mark Collins of Medora was attempting to climb down a ladder-style tree stand when he fell 17 feet to the ground.

Collins desperately yelled for help and even fired his gun in attempt to get attention of neighbors and other hunters.

Justin Couch, who was hunting nearby, heard Collins screaming and came to his aid.

Collins was transported to University Hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

He was not wearing a hunter safety harness at the time of his fall.
