INDIANAPOLIS (WHAS11) – The state of Indiana has a new auditor.

Dwayne Sawyer was sworn in Monday morning during a ceremony in Indianapolis. He is the first African-American Republican to hold a statewide office in Indianapolis.

Sawyer was appointed to the post by Governor Mike Pence last week after former Auditor Tim Berry stepped down to take over as Indiana’s Republican Party Chairman.

Sawyer will fulfill the rest of the term through next year and is expected to see re-election.
