(WHAS11) -- An Indiana Senator says Hoosiers should be allowed to carry guns on college campuses.
Jim Banks, a republican from Columbia City says it would help students and faculty members feel safer.
It is the latest legislation about gun control in the wake of the Newton Connecticut elementary school shootings.
The bill would apply to all public university campuses but not private schools. It would allow anyone who already has a license to carry a gun to keep that gun while on campus.
Banks says college administrations strongly oppose his bill.
The bill has been assigned to the rules committee which means it is unlikely to get a hearing.
