(WHAS11) -- Immersed in Ink, a tattoo convention is in town at the Kentucky International Convention Center this weekend from August 13-15.

The convention features tattooists from around the country, as well as art and handmade crafts.

Mars Stanley is just one of the handmade craft vendors at the convention and he makes ear gauges and other things too in order to give his customers what they want.

“I make a variety of things,” Stanley said. “Obviously at the tattoo convention the ear gauges sell well, but I have made wooden make-up brush handles and bangles.”

His wares can be made in a variety of woods and Stanley said he has used 66 different types of wood before.

A tattoo artist at the convention, Joe Van or Joe Millz as he is known at the Lost & Found Tattoo Co. he works for, said coming to this event is a good thing for him and you can tattoo customers who may not always come to a shop.

“I usually don’t come to these conventions because I have a lot of bookings at the shop, but this time I decided to come,” Millz said.

There are more tattoo artists there and events are scheduled on Friday, Saturday and Sunday that include Human Suspension, slideshows, the Halfpint Brawlers from Spike TV and contests.

Immersed in Ink officials urge local tattoo shops to come by and ask about joining the rest of the Immersed in Ink tour. They say their next two stops are in Colorado and Ohio.
