STERLING, Ill. (AP) -- An Illinois boy who spent hours buried underneath an Indiana sand dune is back in school.
Nathan Woessner started first grade on Monday.
WLS-TV reports the 6-year-old from Sterling spent weeks undergoing rehabilitation after the July 12 accident. He was playing on the dune when he was swallowed by a hole in the sand. Woessner was buried beneath about 11 feet of sand and spent two weeks in the hospital.
Faith Woessner is Nathan's mom. She says he's back to his "normal, go-lucky" self and "running and playing and doing all the stuff he does."
His father, Greg Woessner, says the family is also sharing more details about what happened with Nathan.
As for school, the boy says his favorite part of the first day was playing outside.
