LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Lawsuits have been filed against Heavenly Angels Childcare Center and Lavonia Lewars, the woman who owned and operated it in the wake of a fatal crash that killed one woman and injured more than a dozen children.
One of the lawsuits alleges Lewars cleaned out the day care's bank account two days after the crash, all while owing her employees and others tens of thousands of dollars.
The lawsuit was filed by the SKS Accounting Firm, which alleges the company gave Heavenly Angels cash advances of more than $73,000 in the weeks before the crash in order for the day care to make payroll.
The suit says Lewars cleaned out the day care center's account two days after the crash, taking more than $81,000 out of the account.
Former employees tell us that Lewars has not paid them since the day care closed down and they have been unable to reach her.
We tried to find her at her home and business, but were unable to.
A separate lawsuit alleges that Lewars put a driver behind the wheel of the day care van who she knew drove recklessly in the past.
