LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- More than 300 people hundred are pledging to help save the Cavalier Inn.

The Cavalier Inn is in danger of going out of business and it's not because the money isn't pouring in.

The Inn has sat at its' location for 142 year. It is a place for friends and family, but all of that could be coming to an end because the owner of the building wants to demolish it and put in a Family Dollar.

Portland residents say a Family Dollar will not fit on their block.

John Owen has started a campaign to save the building he calls a symbol of the city's oldest neighborhood.

The goal is to save the building and get it on the historic registry list. This is a move residents say is vital to keeping their community strong.
