ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WHAS11) -- At around 8:13 a.m. Elizabethtown Police responded to the Hardin Memorial Hospital in regards to a patient that had shot himself.

The individual died as a result of a self- inflicted gunshot wound. No one else was injured.

The hospital released the following statement:

"At approximately 8:10 am a code blue followed by a code silver was announced and soon after an all clear was called.  Staff members heard a gunshot and responded quickly and appropriately following our code silver emergency procedure policy in their actions. A patient here at Hardin Memorial Hospital died as a result of a self- inflicted gunshot wound. At no time were any of our patients, their family members or our staff threatened.  Due to an ongoing police investigation we are not able to release any additional information."  
 
"We extend our sympathies to the patient's family members and ask that you keep them and our staff in your prayers over the next few days." 

"Our employee assistance program is on-site this morning and today for employee counseling."
