(WHAS11) - Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel has passed away after a battle with cancer.

Frankel was 68 years old when he died at his Pacific Palisades, California home.

He won his only triple crown race with Empire Maker in the 2003 Belmont Stakes. Frankel trained six Breeders' Cup winners and ranked second to D. Wayne Lukas in career Breeders' Cup earnings.

He never won a Kentucky Derby, although he did win the Kentucky Oaks twice
