LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – More than 2,000 spectators were on hand as participants gathered for the 25th annual Kentucky Derby Festival Great Bed Races.

To many, it’s obviously not the Run for the Roses but it’s definitely an entertaining one.

This year’s course was changed to a figure 8 which added a new challenge for the teams.

Timing began as each team crossed the start line and stopped at the finish line.

The theme of this year’s event was “Call of the Wild.”

Alpha Energy Solutions, featuring 17-year-old NASCAR K&N Pro Series driver Ben Rhodes, pulled off an amazing upset at Monday’s event. His team finished with a time of 33.41 seconds in the Championship Division.

Newcomers “Winner Takes All” led the field with a time of 34.16 in the Fun Division.

More than 40 teams participated in the event.

The winners will be invited to participate in the Pegasus Parade on May 1.
