FRANKFORT, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The family of slain Bardstown police officer Jason Ellis joined Governor Steve Beshear at his Capitol office on Wednesday as he designated a nearly 13-mile portion of a Nelson County highway to be named in honor of Ellis.

Ellis's murder is still unsolved.

He was ambushed in the early morning hours of May 25, 2013, shortly after completing a shift.

The section of the Martha Layne Collins Bluegrass Parkway that is named for Ellis ends near exit 34 where he was killed.
