LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The Girl Scouts organization is gearing up for one of their most favorite times of the year – cookie time.

Saturday was the first official day troop leaders could pick up boxes of Samoas, Thin Mints and other favorites to sell over the next month.

The warehouse, located on Poplar Level Road, is storing an estimated 1.7 million boxes of cookies.

According to Girl Scouts, the average Girl Scout in the region sells about 175 boxes during cookie season.

“It’s like a multimillion dollar business that happens in about three weeks. But it happens with this amazing sales force of girls 18 and younger in a short period of time,” Allison Drury said. “It’s pretty intense.”

Girl Scouts will begin setting up booths to sell cookies next Friday.

They will be available to purchase through March 16.
