Inside post. Ugh!
Outside post. Double Ugh!
The two favorites for the Kentucky Derby are divided by 18 other horses in the starting gate.
The post position draw has worked better than a handicapper dropping lead weights in a saddle bag.
Pat Day once told me that post position doesn't mean anything unless you have a good horse, but on Saturday some good horses will have to do a lot more to win.
If  Lookin at Lucky wins from the rail or Sidney's Candy can rush up from the 20th post position, then they are truly deserving.
Which brings me back to Super Saver. He gets post position four and Calvin Borel can see the rail heading into the first turn. It's Super Saver's third race off the winter layoff and he should be ready. Overlook Calvin at your peril.
I saw the filly school in the paddock today and she looks great. Owner John Greathouse says his brother had a dream about the eleven horse winning the Derby and today Devil May Care pulled the eleven. Stranger things have happened.
Among those likely to create some nice exotics:
Dublin is a hard knocker who is likely to hit the board.
Awesome Act has the breeding to go a mile and a quarter and could be around at the end.
Noble's Promise has a good post in number three and if he gets a good trip could provide a nice payoff.
There's something about Paddy O'Prado that indicates he might spring an upset and Stately Victor, the Polytrack wonder might love the dirt this time and pull a surprise.
But I'm going to go with Calvin Borel to win his second Derby in a row and give Todd Pletcher his first.
Lookin at Lucky will give him a fight, and after leading the race early, Sidney's Candy hangs on for third.
And remember, when in doubt, hit the all button.
Happy Derby everyone.
