GMK on Your Backside: The best Bloody Mary in Kentuckiana

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- The Bloody Mary may not be the official cocktail of the Kentucky Oaks or Derby, but the annual Bloody Mary Contest has become a big, and tasty, part of the Kentucky Derby Festival.

This year's winner is Ashley Towning from Against the Grain. Towning and Liz Bingham from Brown Forman stopped by the Backside Tuesday morning and shared the recipe for the winning cocktail.


Winning Finlandia Vodka Bloody Mary Recipe Contest

Vodka (per batch):
3 bottles Finlandia vodka
1 whole lemon's peel
1 tbsp. dill
3 green onion stalks
1 pepper
2 jalapeños
6 smoked garlic heads
1 whole smoked horseradish root
Let macerate for 5 days and strain before use.

Bloody Mix:
3 bottles Major Peter's Bloody Mix (as a base)
10 oz. house BBQ sauce
4 oz. Sriracha hot sauce
30 turns fresh black pepper
2 oz. smoked horseradish, grated
11/2 oz. jalapeño vinegar
1 tbsp. cayenne pepper
