LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It was a crazy start to Derby Week - heavy rain, lightning and winds made for a very wet Backside at Churchill Downs.
But that didn't stop one trainer from sending his Derby hopeful out on the track and Steve Asmussen said Tapiture is better off for it.
Not exactly ideal conditions for a morning workout, but Tapiture appears to be a creature of routine.
That focus, Asmussen said, wasn't to be clouded up by a Monday morning storm. Especially with rain in the forecast all week.
Asmussen is facing many critics this year after accusations of horse abuse from PETA.
He fired his head trainer after a video surfaced of the alleged abuse, and even though he wasn't directly implicated many are rooting against him this Derby.
