ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) -- Court records show a fugitive arrested in India in the slaying of a northeastern Indiana man nearly 22 years ago had lay in wait for the victim and attacked him from behind, stabbing him several times.
Indian police arrested Mahfuz Huq (MAH fooz HUCK) on a murder warrant Thursday from Steuben County in connection with the 1989 slaying of 19-year-old Todd Kelley of Hamilton Lake.
Kelley’s body was found by his girlfriend, Christine Mutzfeld. The Herald Republican of Angola quotes authorities as saying at the time that Huq had told Mutzfeld that if he learned she was dating someone else, he would kill that man and then kill her.
Court documents say cigarette butts at the murder scene indicated Huq waited for Kelley outside the victim’s home.
Huq is now 44-years-old.
