LOUISVILLE, KY (WHAS11)-– Seven-year-old Ella Ralph died in a head-on car accident on Terry Road on May 17 and the others are trying to help the family with expenses.
"We've been assured that there was no pain or suffering - that it was instant," Patty Francis said, who is friends with Ella’s family.
Ella’s sisters Rachel, Jenna, and her grandmother Kay were all send to the hospital.
“Jenna broke her back,” Francis said. “[The grandmother] has more bones that are broken than not broken.”
Ella’s mother Becky was in Lexington at her son Cory’s soccer game when she heard about the accident. Francis and parents from Cory’s soccer team have helped out the family by providing meals, drivers, and Francis set up a GoFundMe account.
Ella’s family came to her gravesite on Friday, when they buried her, and again on Monday, to celebrate her birthday. She would have been eight years old.
“She was excited about her birthday,” Francis said. “I just asked everyone on the website to donate eight dollars. That's kind of like a value meal. It's not a huge commitment. It's eight dollars. We could all give eight dollars."
Some met Patty’s challenge. 15 donations as of the time of this story from individuals, and then families chose to donate eight dollars to each member of their family.
The website shows is almost more than one third of the way toward her goal of 10,000 dollars. She says people do not only have to offer money.
“A prayer - whatever we can do,” Francis said. “I just ask that we all reach out and help this family in their time of need."
