(WHAS11)—A local cancer foundation is helping out a young cancer patient who lost his dog during a recent robbery.

Nicholas Vanarsdale, while getting cancer treatments, had his house broken into, and the gate was left open, allowing his pet dog to get free and be hit by a vehicle and die.

Meghan’s Mountain heard about Vanarsdale’s story and is coming to help.

Meghan Steinberg is a leukemia survivor who started a foundation to help others.

The foundation will help get Vanarsdale a new dog, which they say is helpful during this difficult time in his life.
