Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Louisville's former mayor has returned to remember the day that changed the city forever: the anniversary of the devastating tornado outbreaks of 1974.

Dr. Harvey Sloane currently lives in Washington D.C., but he has returned to Louisville this weekend for the 40th anniversary of the storm's destruction.

Dr. Sloane will be at Crescent Hill's Kennedy Park at 1 p.m. on April 5. After the introductions, the event will move to St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Frankfort Avenue.

People are encouraged to bring photographs and memorabilia to share.
