GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) -- A former Eastern Kentucky mayor has received a two-year sentence for trafficking in marijuana.
The Independent (http://bit.ly/1dNE5mZ) reports 56-year-old Danny Sparks was in court Monday to learn his fate.
His attorney, Robin Webb of Grayson, requested probation for Sparks, but the judge denied it.
Judge Rebecca Phillips ordered Sparks to report to the Carter County Detention Center by Feb. 3 to begin serving his sentence.
Sparks pleaded guilty last month to trafficking in marijuana within 1,000 yards of the school.
Web says Sparks made a "terrible mistake, and he is paid dearly for it."
