JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Gary Tanner appeared in Clark County court on Thursday to face a charge of child molestation. He’s accused of abusing his daughter’s friend, a girl who was 13 at the time.
She told a school counselor at Our Lady of Providence High School who then reported it to the Department of Child Services.
In November, police searched Tanner’s home on Hay Stack Drive in Jeffersonville.
“The cops were out front, and I saw a detective go in and they carried all kinds of stuff out. They had boxes and yellow envelopes,” Crystal Metcalf, neighbor, said.
Court documents show police found several cell phones, computers, soccer rosters, knives and a suicide note. Inside the home is where four of the alleged sexual encounters took place between 2010 through 2011.
Another more serious claim of rape was alleged to have happened at a hotel in Richmond, Ky. where the victim, Tanner and his daughter traveled to for a soccer tournament.
A judge ordered Tanner’s bail at $75,000 full cash. He could face charges in Kentucky for the rape allegation.
